IBM Correcting Selectric III
Watching the typing element or ‘ball’ whizz around at light speed while typing fast is mesmerizing. The last and greatest non-electronic typewriter ever built.

I last used a type writer 20 years ago to fill out some college application stuff that still had to be on paper, because I was very aware that my handwriting would reflect poorly on me. I think it was an IBM, but probably electric.

I used this one a few months ago to type out an amount on a personal check, just ‘cuz. It’s fun to take the dust cover off and fire it up once in awhile, there’s a lot of theater to it.

O ur “advanced” typing classes got those. I learned on the full manual, but it was on one of those that I first cracked 80wpm...

Hell yeah. That’s the best part about these vs unassisted typewriters, you can type so much faster.

My high school typing class had these at first but then the school burned down and we had whatever they could scrounge up including some manuals. Needless to say, we didn’t do speed tests after that.
